My Story
This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Why? First, I am a recent survival of rectal cancer. I am one month since the removal of my ileostomy bag, that I had for four months after they removed a very large tumor. I feel very blessed and lucky to have survived. But I could have not done it by myself, without the support of my friends, family, and doctors that truly cared. So, in gaining my muscle and mobility back, I had already chosen bike riding. It was my good fortune that the timing of this challenge was perfect and exactly what I needed to continue my journey and give back to the children and their families.
More importantly, I am doing this for the children. Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Your support will change little lives.
Thank you.

Day 16
16 Sep 2026Put in 4 miles this morning and it was 68° (f), when I left the house. Wished I would have grabbed a long sleeve shirt, there was just enough breeze to make it "chilly". Good ride, may try to squeeze in another this evening.

Day 13
13 Sep 2026Beautiful day for a ride. Got out before the heat really started kicking this morning. Stopped by and had a visit with my daughter this morning.
I am almost back up to my goal number, I'll still be off a couple miles at the end of the day tomorrow (but just a few). Thanks to all for the support so far...it is appreciated.

Day 11
11 Sep 2026Didn't get out until late morning and it was just HOT! It was like riding a bike in a steam room, going to try and do another this evening when it cools off.
I do have lights, so I will try to take away all of my excuses..lol.

Day 8
9 Sep 2026My healing wound (from ileostomy reversal 5 weeks ago) didn't get infected, but got red and irritated from the sweating while riding. We just have to dress it a little differently and more often with the extra activity.
